Greater Noida development body to penalize societies failing to install waste treatment plants

GREATER NOIDA: If fines don’t work, maybe shame will. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has started penalizing housing societies that have failed to install waste treatment plants. simply just in case that fails to form builders fall in line, the development agency plans to award ranks to each housing society supported, however, they lose trash and place up the results on its web site for everyone to see.
The updated rules put the onus on gated housing societies manifested on plots holding more than 5,000 sqm to prepare and treat biodegradable waste within the compound. Only recyclable waste can be delivered over to rag pickers or agencies managing them.
The sinful societies and educational institutions were awarded time till September to set in place a waste management system. After separating dry and wet waste, housing societies are lacked to process, treat and dispose of the trash themselves. According to the altered rules, a large housing society can simply pass on non-biodegradable waste to the local civic administration (GNIDA in Greater Noida) for distribution.
We have been attempting to generate awareness among societies and have provided them sufficient time to place a waste treatment system in situ. The Authority has also delivered over a record of impaneled agencies that can set up waste treatment plants.
