There is some good news for the environmentalists and eco-friendly people. Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) today said over 2 billion square feet area of green building projects has been registered so far and is targeting to have 10 billion square feet by 2022. In the last few years the green building movement has taken momentum in which energy efficient projects are coming up for approval.

In these projects solar and wind energy is used for heating and lighting, rain water harvesting is done, waste water management is done and the treated water is used for toilets and non-drinking purposes, garbage segregation is done, bio degradable wastes are used as fertilisers for the gardens and landscapes etc.

IGBC is a part of (Confederation of Indian Industry) CII-Godrej Green Business Centre, which is actively involved in promoting the green building movement in India. As of today IGBC has 2 billion square feet built-up area of green building projects registered with the Council. The larger plan and strategy of IGBC is to have 10 billion square feet by the year 2022 when India will be celebrating its 75th Independence Day.
