Growing luxury market increases demand for interior designing

Chennai- Increasing number of luxury residential projects in the city have paved way for global interior designers to enter the city. The opening of single and multi brand Foreign Development Investment (FDI) in retail market, foreign brands have been supplied with a huge potential market.

There are a wide range of luxury properties in Chennai, ranging between Rs 75 lakh to Rs 10 crore, said Mr G. Shakthi of Eyeball Media, which conducted a luxury homes property fair recently.

The data obtained from the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) reveals that there is a demographic inversion in the home buyer market with the average age of a buyer falling to 27 from 40 years in the last decade.

Relocation of families, growing nuclear family set up and dual income in households are increasing the affordability which further increases home furniture market.

Many designer brands including French major Gautier are either setting up direct shop or opening franchisees in the city. German furniture brand Rolf Benz is teaming with Adithya Agencies. Simply Sofas has opened a big showroom showcasing a collection of motion sofas, fine dinner sofas, and ‘stressless’ recliners and home theatre seatings. As a result of Indians travelling throughout the world, they have developed a new set of their own choice of furniture.
