Gujarat government issues notices to renew lift licenses
The state authority has issued notices to renew licenses of lifts and elevators, to many residential and commercial buildings in Ahmedabad and other cities of Gujarat.
It is mandatory that lifts need to be licensed and be renewed regularly. Using lifts that are older and which are not in proper condition is dangerous. An incident has been recorded recently in which two kids lost their lives as they were stuck between door and lift cabin.
This incident moved the officials to conduct a drive to check the records and identify establishments not having active safety license of lifts in apartments or complexes. It has been made clear that if any accident takes place in lifts, then the person responsible for renewal of lift license will be held responsible for such accident.
The inspectors who check the lift condition would prepare a detailed report including the lift’s condition, regular maintenance and emergency provisions. If any lift is found not up to the mark then the judiciary body can levy fines or even cancel the license of the lift.
