Gurgaon residents protest demolition move
The Gurgaon district administration’s decision to begin, starting Monday, a demolition drive against 12,287 properties falling within the restricted 1,000-yard (900 m) radius from the boundary of the IAF ammunition depot resulted in massive protests in the area.
Gurgaon residents protest against the Administration’s plan to demolish their colonies. The Administration, however, claimed that these colonies had been constructed illegally and the Administration was bound to follow the Punjab & Haryana High Court order directing the Administration to demolish these illegal colonies.
The district administration, however, said only commercial establishments would be demolished. According to source, Administration plans to demolish around 20 commercial establishments like shops, banquet hall and restaurants which are located adjacent to the wall of the ammunition depot.
“No houses located within the 900 metres radius of the ammunition depot will be demolished but the Administration plans to demolish around 20 commercial establishments like shops, banquet hall and restaurants which are located adjacent to the wall of the ammunition depot,” said Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Rajendra Kataria.
Besides damaging two government vehicles, youths carrying hockey sticks and iron rods were seen threatening the commuters.Mr. Kataria asserted that no one would be displaced from their dwelling units.

Municipal Corporation Of Gurgaon Should Act now
Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon to take action and request goverment and defence ministry lowering the mandatory 900 meters restriction to 100 metres to allow construction around Air Force Station Gurgaon.
As this was the action taken by tamilnadu Goverment in 2007 and got an amendment to building rules near to Tambaram ammunition depot:

The Government after careful examination have decided to issue amendment to sub-rule
(5) to rule 5 and sub -rule (6) to rule 6 of the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Building Rules,
1972 so as to give effect to the Government of India notification SRO. No. 12 dated 14.2.207.

In the letter read above, the Joint Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Defence
has communicated a copy of the SRO No. 12 dated 14.2.2007 published in the Gazette of India
on 3.3.2007, wherein restriction on constructions of buildings around Air Force Stations and
installations has been fixed as 100 metres instead of 900 metres.
AMENDMENTS
In the said Rules:-
(1) in rule 5 in sub-rule (5) for the expression “900 metres” the expression “100 metres” shall be substituted; and
(2) in rule 6, in sub-rule (6). for the expression “900 metres” the expression “100 metres” shall be substituted.
