GVMC plans to issue special notices on GIS-based property tax
With the completion of the survey for levying property tax on the basis of Geographic Information System (GIS), the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is all set to issue special notices.
The relocation to GIS is one of the developments under the Jawaharlal National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) on property tax.
However, there has been a delay for the first half of the current year in the corporation’s plans to shift to GIS and the issuing of demand notices on its basis. According to sources, the delay was due to the transfer of tax collectors.
The surveys showed that there was an increase of Rs17 crore for the year from property tax. There were indications that higher tax can be collected from about 50,000 properties.
