‘Hamro Ghar’ scheme released for underprivileged people in GTA areas
Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) chief Bimal Gurung today announced that the autonomous body has planned a ‘Hamro Ghar‘ (our house) project as an annual scheme designed for underprivileged people residing in the GTA areas. It is a new scheme projected by the GTA that will be implemented all the 45 constituencies of the GTA for the underprivileged people. The houses, 20 in each constituency, will be built at a cost of around Rs 1.8 lakh per house to be sanctioned from the GTA fund Gurung said.
It may be mentioned that after chief minister Mamata Banjerjee formed the Mayel Lyang Lepcha Development Board (MLLDB) for the Lepcha community, she implemented the ‘Rong Lee’ (Lepcha house) scheme last year for Lepcha families living in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts.
The Rong Lee scheme is similar to the Amra Bari scheme. In 2013, the chief minister sanctioned Rs 20 crore to the MLLDB from the state Backward Class Welfare Department, and this year she permitted an additional Rs 20 crore from the state Tribal Development Board. Mr Gurung, however, did not compare the chief minister’s plans for the Lepchas to the ‘Hamro Ghar’ project.
