Haryana govt asked to expedite work on much-delayed KMP Expressway project

With the Haryana Government’s Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway project having missed several completion deadlines, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has recently told the state government authorities to speed up work on the project.

The delays-hit 135-km KMP Expressway was initiated in January 2006, with the aim of easing traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. Though the Rs 1,915-crore project – which is being executed by DS Construction Ltd – was scheduled to be completed by July 2009, the deadline for the completion of the project has been extended a number of times.

Asking the Haryana government to expedite work on the KMP Expressway, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has instructed that the work on the project should be resumed within a period of 2 months.

With an official report having revealed that the physical progress of the KMP project is approximately 70 percent, the Ministry said that if the state government fails to resume work by the mentioned period, the remaining work on the project will be executed through National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

Noting that an amount of Rs 1200 crore has thus far been incurred on the project, Krishan Pal Gurjar – Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping – told Business Standard: “We have offered the state government that the project cost which has already been spent will be given to state government and the remaining amount would be spent by Ministry on the completion of the project.”
