Haryana look to decrease toll charges
Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday met officers of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Public Works (Building and Roads) Department in Chandigarh to discuss toll taxes and national highways in the state. The move is to woo voters in the region. The CM said that the state government may compensate NHAI for the losses in toll revenue. He asked NHAI to submit a detailed report of the loss to the state government by next week.
The officers of Hooda government have been directed to frame a policy aimed at lowering the high toll tax. Till the time the policy is finalized, he has asked to discontinue the increased toll on state highways. NHAI has agreed to the proposal. Commuters using toll plazas on all state and national highways in Haryana, and also the Kherki Daula toll plaza on NH-8 and toll plazas on Gurgaon-Faridabad Road are going to get the benefit.
Earlier, Toll rates on Kherki Daula toll plaza was hiked from Rs. 27 to Rs. 56 in February after Sirhaul toll plaza on NH-8 was removed. The rates have been further hiked to Rs. 60 per trip.
