Haryana spent Rs 380 cr on drinking water scheme
According to officials, the state government has spent more that Rs 380 crore on the sundry water supply project under the Indira Gandhi Drinking Water Scheme.
This scheme was launched in November 2006 with an aim of getting the pipe water supply to the unprivileged sections of the society.
Around 96 percent of target has already been achieved by this project – drinking water is reaching now in more than 10 lakh households.
According to a government official, around 9,99,431 households are getting water through piped connection and by March, another 36,000 households will be added to the list.
The total budget for the drinking water scheme was revised this year. The basic budget was Rs 425 crore which lifted to Rs 433 crore. The increase in budget took place due to the delay of work and also the inclusion of few new aspects.
There are many areas in Haryana where people depend on the ground water reserves for sustenance, as there is scarcity of water. This scheme will help the people by providing free and easy water connection.
This project not only provide the tap water but it is also looking for fresh water in some selected part of the localities. A Government official commented that they will set up 200 liter tanks of capacity in these areas as the external source of water. This is the only state in the county which will embark on such projects out of the its own budgetary provision.
