HC issues notice against civic bodies
The garbage disposal issue seems to have irked the residents of Bangalore as well as the court.
The high court has issued notices to the state government, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and Karnataka Slum Clearance Board (KSCB) in a public interest petition related to the garbage disposal system in the city.
The issuing was a result of petition filed in the high court contending that the city generates 4,000 metric tonnes of solid waste per day and the present method of its disposal is leading to pollution of groundwater and air.
The petitioner sought for a direction to the BBMP to appoint retired government officials or retired civil servants or ex-defence personnel to oversee implementation and enforcement of segregation of waste at every ward of BBMP.
