The Gujarat High Court has asked Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) chief to inspect all 908 high rise buildings in the city for fire safety equipment, and submit a report before the court.
According to statistics, there are 1232 high-rise buildings in the city and out of these, 907 do not have fire safety no objection certificate (NOC) from the fire department.
The court was hearing a public-interest litigation (PIL) filed by Anit Panchal demanding installation of fire safety equipments in high-rise buildings in the city.

The high court also asked the state government to form a committee to study and suggest legislation for fire safety.

Meanwhile, the government informed the court that it had constituted a committee to recommend steps to bring a new law for fire safety in the state and will submit the report in three months.

The chief fire officer M F Dastoor said that he will conduct survey at five buildings daily to look upon fire safety issues.
