HDFC ventures into the education sector
There is some good news for India as a nation which has been struggling with illiteracy and basic education problems post-independence. Mortgage lender HDFC Ltd has announced its foray into the education sector by launching The HDFC School.
The school is being set up by a trust with the management services being provided by HDFC Education and Development Services (HDFC Edu), a wholly-owned subsidiary of HDFC Ltd.
This school is located in Gurgaon and the admissions for the school will commence from August 25, 2014 for academic session 2015-16. These admissions will happen for classes Nursery to Class III, as per the statement issued by HDFC. The HDFC School will follow the CBSE curriculum and shall be affiliated to CBSE and will offer schooling till class 12.
HDFC Managing Director Renu Sud Karnad, who is leading this foray gave some insights behind the company’s decision of entering into the education sector by the banking and financial giant. She mentioned that HDFC’s aim is to enter India’s education sector with a long-term vision to create a visible impact on schooling system across the country. HDFC wants to provide school management and other allied services, apart from setting up of schools.
With the flagship school in Gurgaon, the aim is to build a centre of educational excellence. These institutes will follow the best practises in the education sector of the country. They will also focus to equip the children with life skills, emotional intelligence and a sound value system that will hold them in good stead in the future.
