Healthcare and healthcare research to get support from the West Bengal and Rajasthan ministries
Healthcare management and research has not grown substantially in India. However now there is some good news for the residents of Kolkata and the eastern zone of India. After opening campuses in Jaipur, Bangalore and New Delhi, the prestigious Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), a globally-recognised entity in the health sector is pondering over opening its fourth campus in Kolkata in the next couple of years. This non-profit, self-financed institute wants to take the education and research in hospital and health management-related issues to the students of eastern and north eastern parts of India.
Dr Ashok Agrawal, Founder-Trustee of IIHMR Society mentioned that they are awaiting clearances from the West Bengal Government C.M Mamata Banerjee to start work on the two-acre land along the Eastern Bypass near Kolkata.
Not only West Bengal, Rajasthan also is geared up to give better medical facilities to its residents. Rajasthan C.M Vasundhara Raje was present in the convocation on Saturday to present diplomas to the students. There she mentioned that seven new government medical colleges would soon be opened in the state. They are also looking at delivering healthcare facilities at people’s doorsteps. They will be soon setting up a cancer institute at the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences and will be upgrading some district hospitals.
