High Court directed CMDA to give details of unauthorized residential flats

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is asked to give details of unauthorized residential flats constructed in the city and the action taken by the agency against such constructions. The Madras High Court has directed the CMDA to file an affidavit giving the details. The affidavit should be filed by November 12. The matter has been posted for November 15.

The First Bench consisting of Chief Justice M.Y.Eqbal and Justice T.S.Sivagnanam passed the order on a public interest litigation petition. The Bench directed the CMDA counsel to file an affidavit giving details about the number of such unauthorized constructions by owners/builders in Chennai and the action taken to demolish such structures.

The Madras High Court passed the order on a public interest litigation petition.The public interest litigation petition Petitioner T.Solomon of Choolai, who was doing laundry business. He submitted petition that Mahaveer Finance and Builders, Vepery, had obtained planning permission from the Chennai Corporation to construct ground and first floors on Vathiyar Kandapillai Street, Choolai but the construction of residential portion extended up to seven floors.

There was such unauthorized construction of 14 residential portions, which was against the Town and Country Planning Act and rules. Because of such a construction, the others faced great difficulties in enjoying water and drainage facilities.

To his representation, CMDA informed him about the notice issued to the builder for taking appropriate action. But till date, no action had been taken. The Bench directed the CMDA counsel to file an affidavit giving details about the number of such unauthorized construction and the action taken to demolish such structures.

  2. Make a mild solution of water and automatic dishwasher detergent (low suds). Soak them a while and rinse thoroughly to remove the detergent. By the way, if you let them dry thoroughly before soaking they will come cleaner. Seems the fabric “fluffs” when dried, letting the soap solution penetrate better.
