Highway ministry seeks EC permission to award road projects
The highways ministry is seeking Election Commission’s nod to award works for over 60 road projects involving over Rs 22,000 crore investments. In the past one month, finances for the first set of about 55 works have been sanctioned by the ministry. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has called financial bids for 22 projects, which are expected to be opened in March-April. The ministry has cleared projects of around Rs 2,500 crore, sources informed.
Road ministry officials point out that due to polls, several projects have come in late for their approval.
For many projects like the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, NHAI has invited financial bids. Financial bids of around eight projects are expected to be opened in the third week of March.
