Homes in Goa might lose their approach road
Few residents in Varunapuri, Vasco, could get access to their homes cut off as the Navy will close its compound for them from June 1, 2012.
Seven civilian families living in an area of Varunapuri can reach their homes only by passing through naval land. And the Navy had served notice to the state authorities, including Mormugao municipal council.
The notice stated that access to the residents through defense land would be closed for construction of defense-related works and gave those over three months to make alternative arrangements for the area’s residents.
The Navy allowed to temporarily use the access as a humanitarian gesture and on the basis of the state authorities’ assurance.
But now it is not possible for them to allow the residents to use the land as the Ministry of defense has sanctioned a new security wall to protect the defense establishments and the work is already in progress.
The authorities are trying to find out the probable solutions for the residents of the locality, who are residing there since the Portuguese times.
