Hope in revival of Indian aviation sector
Emergence of new players in the Indian civil aviation sector, like AirAsia India and Tata-Singapore International Airlines has shown signs of growth in the sector after long period of troubles. However the domestic passenger traffic that has been encountered in Indian airports has grown only by 5.2 percent in 2013-14. The growth though minimal is definitely a sigh of relief among the much turbulence that the Indian aviation sector has been facing.
The Economic Survey stated that modernisation of existing airport infrastructure both in metro and non-metro cities and also construction of Greenfield airports should be taken into consideration to improve the growth. Upgrading the airports with latest technologies would also help in enhancing the growth. Lack of proper facilities has been one of the main reasons in the sudden fall of Indian aviation sector.
The Survey further continued that out of the 35 non metro airports which were identified for development based work for regional connectivity; work has only been completed in 33 of them. They also stated that development of work in Vadodara and Khajuraho airports were in progress. Post the development work in 35 non metro airports the Indian aviation sector officials expect a growth in the domestic passenger traffic.
