Hubli Dharwad Corporation starts property tax campaign
Hubli- The Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has initiated aggressive campaigning to meet its property tax target for current fiscal.
With financial year ending, the corporation has started making announcements over loudspeakers through its vehicles. The corporation officials are distributing pamphlets and issuing notices to people who have not paid tax despite requesting them to clear their property tax dues.
The awareness programme on property tax payment has been carried out in all the 67 wards of the twin cities by the 12 zonal officers along with revenue department officials.
The HDMC has set Rs 35 crore property tax collection target for the 2012-13 fiscal. Steps have been taken to create awareness among the citizens, says joint commissioner of HDMC. He added that, so far, the corporation has collected Rs 29.79 crore and the remaining dues (Rs 5.21 crore) are to be collected before March 31, 2013.
There are around 2.14 lakh properties in Hubli and Dharwad which include 65,000 open lands. The property tax on properties is fixed according to the guidance value.
All the GHMC officials are busy collecting property tax to meet the set target. The civic body collected Rs 44 lakh on 19 and 20 March 2013. It is expected that the corporation would collect around Rs 32 crore for financial year 2012-13.
Property tax payment can be done in three ways- firstly through the Self-Assessment Scheme (SAS), secondly by cheque or DD which zonal office staff will come to their house to collect and lastly, paying tax in banks.
