Hunger strike by construction workers in Vijayawada
The Krishna District Building Workers Union and Center of Indian Trade Unions have launched a 48-hour hunger strike demanding the State government to take necessary steps to ease the sand scarcity.
The building workers vowed to protest near Sub Collector’s office until the government heeded to their demands.
The workers union is protesting against various decisions taken by the government. Those decisions are hampering the construction activity of the projects in Vijayawada. With that the life of the workers also getting hampered as more than 30 lakh workers are dependent on the construction industry.
The High Court banned sand quarrying all over State following public interest litigation. The court also made it mandatory to obtain prior permission from the court to allow sand mining on even a single hectare.
The government did not make any move in that direction. This is pushing the construction workers into financial crisis.
