Hurdles cleared in 84 mega projects
The Project Monitoring Group (PMG) functions in tandem with the Cabinet Secretariat has since its inception (last seven months) sorted out problems for a total of 84 mega projects amounting to an investment of Rs 3.71 lakh crore. The Chairman of the PMG, Mr. Anil Swaroop differs and says that they have resolved the problems for around 137 projects. “But we have received clear information about 84 projects. Other project implementation agencies, mostly private sector ones, have been slow in filing updated inputs about progress of their projects”, he added. The PMG takes up projects worth 1,000 crore or more and it had identified some 419 stalled projects worth almost Rs 20 lakh crore that had been pending for years. He further said that nine States, including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand, have decided to set up their own monitoring groups for projects worth less than Rs 1,000 crore.
