Hyderabad Corporation budget delays

1 Comment Sub Category:Cities,Civic Issues,Hyderabad Posted On: Dec 31, 2012

Hyderabad- The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) budget proposal for 2013-14 financial year is stuck up for approval.

This is because Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are not assembling for the council meeting. The mayor of MIM is reluctant to gather for this meeting.

On December 13, the proposed budget (Rs 3,800 crore) of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation was cleared by standing committee. According to the GHMC Act, this budget should be first approved at council meeting before January 10 and then sent to the state government before February 20.

Before sending the proposed budget to the government, the corporators at council meeting should discuss  about it for any amendments. But since the process is delayed, GHMC is thinking to circulate copies of the budget proposal to all corporators and ex-official members within a week and then get it approved in council later.

From past six months not even GHMC’s general council meeting has been held to discuss other issues. Telugu Desam Party, from past three months is looking forward for a general meeting to discuss general issues and problems in the city

As per the Act, a new member should take oath during the council meeting. BJP claimed that this meeting was delayed to stop their party member C Uday Kumar to take oath as a corporator in place of B Ravi Kumar. Congress party could not give a notice to make this meeting happen. Nobody from both parities are giving answers about the general and council meeting.
