IGBC launches three rating system for rating green buildings
Today the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) announced three rating systems to cover schools, metro rail projects and new buildings. Prem C Jain the Chairman of IGBC stated that the New Building Rating System comes into force because IGBC and US Green Building Council have parted ways on the LEED certification programme.
The launching of the three systems was announced at the CII (The Confederation of the Indian Industry) Green Building Congress 2014. Since LEED certification was a sought after certificate which the builders wanted to acquire for the eco-friendly buildings, IGBC had partnered with US Green Building Council. However now since they have parted ways, there has to be a regulator to judge the green buildings. The three rating system was launched keeping that in mind.
Jain also mentioned that all these years, the US LEED certification was followed in rating new buildings. However now IGBC has decided to part ways and have their own rating system for new buildings. Jain believes that India could become a next big Green Building base in the world. This approach was adopted in the backdrop of this belief.
A portal has also been created to facilitate online interface on green building rating systems. The Eco friendly homes use the optimum resources and conserve natural resources along with waste management and other measures.
