1500 Illegal Colonies in Delhi to be Regularized

The Delhi government on Monday decided to regularize around 1500 unauthorized colonies in the city. Property Owners will be given 90 days to pay the charges after the regularization notification.

The Delhi government on Monday decided to regularize around 1500 unauthorized colonies in the city. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been told by the government to accelerate the work on the lay-out plans of unauthorized colonies so that the regularization process could be fast-tracked. The Delhi cabinet had constituted the committee which finalized its recommendations in its second meeting.

The Delhi government on Monday decided to regularize around 1,500 unauthorized colonies in the city after their residents pay development charges for providing amenities like potable water, roads and electricity. Property owners in these colonies will have to pay development charges of Rs.200 per square meter. They will be given 90 days to pay the charges after the regularization notification.

“The resident welfare associations of these colonies may also collect the charges and deposit them in the urban development department,” the official said.

The government earlier referred the proposal for regularization of these colonies to a group of ministers, which has given its approval.”The Delhi cabinet had constituted the committee, under the chairmanship of urban development minister AK Walia, which finalized its recommendations in its second meeting,” the official said.
