The President has given her assent to the amendment of the Municipal Councils and Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act. According to the amendment, any official allowing unauthorized constructions have to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 or will be punished by imprisonment for a month.

The amendment will also allow to appoint an officer to ensure that there are no unauthorized constructions in the jurisdiction of the respective municipal corporation, council, panchayats and industrial townships.

With this amendment the construction work in Mumbai will slow down to some extent. The quick approval of different projects may not happen as well.

The real estate in Mumbai has mixed reaction on the amendment of the bill.
