Illegal sand excavation continuing in Maharashtra

The Supreme Court has upheld the AP high court ban on sand quarrying. However, the contractors of Maharashtra are continuously excavating sand from areas of Nizamabad district.

Construction activity of real estate in Mumbai are coming to a grinding halt due to the court’s order, the sand mafias are illegally extracting sand for getting higher rate during the ban.

Sources have said that nearly 1,000 lorry loads are being transported illegally to Hyderabad from the AP border every day.

No survey has been done so far on the seven sand reaches of Esgi, Chhawla, Ganjigaon, Bolegaon, Hungunda, Shakapur and Karegaon close to Nizamabad district border, to gather proper information related to illegal sand supply.

The district collector is trying to stop the illegal sand extraction.The government will start working on to prevent the illegal sand transportation. A team will be formed with officials from different department of revenue, transport and mining to check the fake waybills.
