Increase in cars cramp up residential societies in Delhi
Most residential colonies in Delhi and NCR are getting cramped gradually as service lanes on both sides are often packed with vehicles.
The problem has grown bigger due to the rising culture of builder flats and as increasing number of families these days are buying cars for individual use, there is severe parking crunch.
Colonies such as Greater Kailash I, Green Park, Saket, Lajpat Nagar, New Friends Colony and Mayur Vihar among others often witness residents fighting over parking space.
Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA), a Supreme Court-appointed body to manage parking policies in NCR, is of the opinion that purchase of vehicles should be discouraged in colonies with little or no parking spaces and parking fee should be levied.
Currently, in absence of parking facilities such as multilevel parking or underground parking, cars are parked on the colony roads, leaving little space for pedestrians or emergency vehicles.
