India and Japan to work in Tandem to build smart cities and high-speed bullet trains
In New Delhi, the officials from the Indian Embassy spoke with their Japanese counterparts regarding investments to develop 100 smart cities and high-speed bullet trains to improve infrastructure. Amitabh Kant, Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion mentioned that Japan is their chosen partner because this quality driven nation is the best in developing smart cities and the development of high-speed trains.
Addressing the audience at a FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries) functionKant stated that Japan has already formed a partnership with India for the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project, a 1,483 kilometre dedicated freight corridor.
Kant also mentioned that about 1,000 Japanese companies currently have a presence in India and they want that number to go up to 10, 000 in the next five years.
BJP’s election manifesto clearly charts the move to build 100 smart cities and which better partner India can get than Japan to assist them in building these cities. These cities will have self-sustainable habitats with minimal pollution levels, maximum recycling, optimised energy supplies and efficient public transportation.
There is a huge disparity between the Urban and Rural India. Urban India has all the facilities which any developed nation has, and the rural India does not even get the basics like potable drinking water, sanitation and elementary education. About 750 million people would get into the urbanisation process in the next one decade and India Inc. has chosen Japan to support this rapid urbanisation.
