Indian Realty Space to See More Use of Green Technology

No Comments Sub Category:Green Living,Realty News Posted On: Jun 03, 2014

As India embraces urbanisation and confidently walks the talk of development, the new government’s next step should be to introduce stringent measures in favour of the use of green technology in the construction and realty space, say experts.

CBRE South Asia Chairman and Managing Director, Anshuman Magazine says the construction and property markets are set to see some growth, after having experienced a lean patch for a considerable length of time. In a country that’s as vast and rapidly urbanising as ours, much more needs to be done, says Magazine.

He stressed on the paramount need for introducing strong government measures relating to the use of green technology in construction and real estate sectors.

Recently, the results of a study undertaken by US Green Building Council (USGBC) for LEED outside of the US were revealed. India ranked third on this green ranking, while Canada and China took the first and second places.

The Indian counterpart of the US council and a division of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has launched a number of initiatives towards promoting the construction of green buildings in India. The council has set an ambitious target of certifying 10 billion sq. ft. of green footprints in India by 2022.

Currently, India has about 40 IGBC green factory buildings, 200-plus LEED rated green buildings, and close to 250 IGBC rated green homes.
