Indian roads seldom last due to age old techniques
Despite Indian roads being built and repaired everyday, they still consist of potholes and pits. They have a long history of seldom lasting and disappearing. The key reason for this is that the Indian government still follows the age old technique without any long term success rate.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has been working on Road safety Analysis and is seeking participation through an opinion poll on road safety which will focus on identifying the problem areas.
With the Indian roads being in a severe and dismal condition, the government is quick in undertaking the extensive road construction programs. There are thousands of roads which are under construction and are backed up with equally extensive and adventurous plans for the future.
The Indian government still depends on the age old technology and outdated measures as it lacks initiative and trained personnel and technical expertise. Also the machines which are imported are underutilized and there is an urgent need for the up gradation and recognition.
The government should be open to use the latest technologies with a combination of tested polyethylene and bitumen which will help in the durability of road surfaces. However, the road developers and the consultants are vague with this idea of implementing the advanced and modern technologies which have already proved their worth in countries like China and were further used for the recycled aggregate material.
Henceforth, India still relies on the aggregate from the rocks with the blasting process being done on a large scale to procure the material despite its harmful effects on the environment.
