Congress to take care of Delhi infrastructure projects
Keeping in mind the assembly elections, the Congress will be using development as their trump card to win third time consecutively.
Thinking about the winning strategy, the Congress government had already announced new infrastructure projects, which might get completed by the elections or towards the end of it.
According to Mr. Rajkumar Chauhan, Public Works Department minister, the Congress government had already planned to spend around Rs. 5000 crore, just for the development of roads and construction of new flyover projects.
This is the first time, being in power for past 14 years, the Congress government had spent so much of money in such a short duration. PWD has spent only Rs. 3000 crore for the construction of street-scapin, Games-related flyovers and improvement of street signs and street lights, for the Commonwealth Games.
Due to Commonwealth Games, south Delhi and East Delhi have seen lot of road and flyover constructions. Now, the government is looking into west Delhi and north Delhi. The project to make a stretch of 22-km of Outer Ring Road between Vikaspuri and Wazirabad would cost Rs. 2,037 crore. This signal-free road will obviously ease the traffic in a most part of western and northern Delhi.
Recently, PWD has handed over the contract of this project. Although this project will take more than two years to finish, but major portion of the construction will go on during the election. A road between Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar and Wazirabad and between Azadpur and Prembari Pul are the two other projects, which will also add in west and north Delhi.
Delhi government has taken over a project of 805km roads from MCD in 2012, are also planned to complete during elections.
Improvement will not be restricted to resurfacing of roads but also include the construction and repair of footpath and drains along the roads and streetlights, as per Mr. Chauhan. Delhi’s first monorail project between Shastri Park and Trilokpuri will take at least four years to finish, but will start by election time. The government has already sanctioned the project plan, and the finance plan is expected to finish soon. Even the Signature Bridge project will finish by election.
