InterContinental Hotels group plans to open 47 hotels

Though hotel business may have been witnessing a slow growth in the recent years, the InterContinental Hotels group is buoyant about the long-term demand in the country and is planning to develop 47 hotels within next five years.

Chris Moloney, chief operating officer, South West Asia, IHG told at the moment the hotel chain is re-assessing its position and would focus on mid-scale hotels in India.

The 47 hotels will comprise over 11,000 rooms across prime locations in the metros and secondary cities in the country.

The current development pipeline includes locations such as Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad and Indore among others.

He told that IHG is strongly positioned to build a significant India footprint with a growing presence in India’s key business and leisure hubs.

India has IHG’s third largest pipeline globally by rooms after US and China. Moloney added that IHG is on track to have 150 hotels here by 2020.

IHG will open the first Holiday Inn Express in Ahmedabad in September 2012. IHG will open five hotels in India in 2012 that includes Holiday Inn Express Ahmedabad, Crowne Plaza Greater Noida, Holiday Inn Calangute Goa, Holiday Inn Amritsar and Crowne Plaza Cochin.
