Jaiselmer: Land registry ban lifted in Jasol and Pachpadra

The land registry ban which the Gehlot government had imposed in Jasol and Pachpadra on July 11, 2013, has been overturned by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s cabinet.

The ban on registry of land in Jasol and Pachpadra was put in place by the Gehlot government last year, after a phenomenal escalation in land prices shortly after the announcement of a refinery cum petro-chemical complex at Pachpadra.

Enticed by the manifold increase in land prices, even farmers had started selling their land. As a result, several fake land deals came up within no time; with influential people flouting the rules to procure land under fake identities only to sell them at high prices later.

It was with the intention of curbing these fake land deals that the Gehlot government had imposed the land registry ban in Jasol and Pachpadra. The ban was a result of the investigation which a three-member committee of registration and printing department carried out into the fake land deals.

Though the committee still probing the many of the deals due to excessive documentation involved in the transactions, the new BJP government threw out all the checks and balances when it came to power.

On March 3, the cabinet sub-committee under Rural Development Minister Gulab Chand Kataria recommended the lifting of the ban on land registry in Jasol and Pachpadra; and, on June 30, the Raje cabinet agreed to overturn the ban.
