JCB has almost become a generic name for earth-moving equipment in India
British brand JCB is increasing becoming synonymous with earth-moving machines in India, thanks largely to the omnipresent use of JCB earth-moving equipment – be it backhoe loaders or pick-and-carry cranes – in the country’s construction sector.
With 75 percent of construction equipment sold in India being a JCB-branded machine, it is quite apparent that JCB has almost become a generic name for earth-moving equipment. The ubiquity of JCB machines in the construction industry illustrates the complete dominance of the British brand in India.
Given the fact that JCB’s Indian operations accounted for 17.5 percent of the total revenue of the British firm at the end of 2013, it is evident that JCB is one of the few Western manufacturers which have been able to establish such supremacy over India’s domestic market.
In reference to the widespread use of JCB machines in India’s construction sector, Vipin Sondhi – Managing Director of JCB India – said during a recent interview that the acceptance of the brand is chiefly attributable to the superlative quality of the JCB machines, as well as excellent customer service and easy availability of parts and repairs.
Sondhi asserted: “The (JCB) brand is built over trust and innovation over the number of years that we have spent in the country.”
