Jind MLA threatens agitation against Haryana govt’s forcible acquisition of land from farmers
On Thursday, Jind MLA – INLD’s Dr Harichand Middha – said that a fierce agitation may soon be launched to protest against the Haryana (Congress) government’s forcible acquisition of land from farmers, for different road projects.
Middha conducted meetings with farmers of several Jind villages on Thursday to get an appraisal of the land-acquisition situation; and said that an agitation will be launched if the Haryana government does not ensure that the farmers get proper price of their acquired lands.
During the course of an interaction with the farmers of Pindara village, Middha said that though land is the primary source of livelihood for the farmers, the Congress government, in an apparent alliance with a property dealer, has been encroaching upon the fertile land of the farmers “without paying them the proper price.”
Alleging that the Haryana government has forcibly acquired land from farmers to construct roads, Middha said that most of the farmers are evidently unsatisfied with the price which has been paid for their land.
Middha said that “If the government wants to construct roads, it must first rehabilitate affected farmers with proper prices and a government job to at least one member of each family, whose land has been acquired for constructing roads and other projects;” and added: “We will launch an agitation if the farmers are not paid their dues.”
