Karnataka government to launch a Road Information System (RIS) web portal
In an announcement made on Monday, the Karnataka government revealed that it has plans underway to launch a Road Information System (RIS) web portal, which will provide the citizens the requisite information about roads across the state.
With the announcement about the planned launch of RIS web portal implying that the Karnataka government plans to take roadwork online, PWD minister H C Mahadevappa said that portal will contain information regarding the date of building, date of last repair, costs involved, and amount of time taken for building or repairs.
At a recent meeting of the Federation of the Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), Mahadevappa said that the launch of the RIS web portal is part of a new transparency initiative of the Karnataka government.
According to the details shared by Mahadevappa, the RIS web portal will not only reflect the history of the road and the number of times repair work has been carried out on it, but will also show the duration of time taken by the contractor for completing the work.
Mahadevappa also told the attendees of the FKCCI conference that the key focus of the PWD ministry will be “on completion of road related work in a time bound manner to avoid cost escalations;” and added: “Even the general public will be able to monitor road works through the portal.”
