KMA divided into 8 micro markets: CRISIL Report

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Aug 14, 2014

CRISIL (Credit Rating Information Services of India) Research has segregated the Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA) into 8 micro markets. The report talks about various aspects like population, major factors which impact the economy, major produces etc.

Of these the CRISIL Research estimates South 24 Parganas to account for about 11 % of total fresh supply in Kolkata. This includes vegetables, pulses, rice, wheat, fish, poultry and other dairy products. South 24 Parganas, located on the eastern side of the Hooghly River, is the second least populated district in the KMA. However infiltration from Bangladesh has been a major issue in these areas as migrants come via the river and settle down in the border regions.

The micro market comprises areas such as Narendrapur, Sonarpur, Rajpur and Baruipur and is well connected to other parts of the KMA through the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road and the Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass.

Of these, CRISIL Research estimates EM Bypass to account for about 16% of total upcoming supply in Kolkata. The EM Bypass is a 21km long stretch on the eastern side of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation limits. This stretch connects the northern and southern extremes of the city.

In these areas the residential profile largely comprises middle- and lower middle income segments and demand for residential units is primarily end-user driven. EM Bypass also connects the areas in the central business district (CBD) region with Salt Lake and North 24 Parganas.
