Kochi Metro land acquisition gains pace

1 Comment Sub Category:Cities,Civic Issues,Kochi Posted On: Dec 18, 2012

Kochi- The process of land acquisition for Kochi Metro has gained speed. An amount of Rs 46 crore is given to the district administration by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) for land acquisition and rehabilitation.

District administration has taken steps in this case. The fund will be used to pay the owners of the land who have agreed for the handover of the land.

Few days back a survey was conducted to determine the boundary for  Kochi Metro rail project between Aluva and Edappally. It is assumed that district administration will need to acquire more than 40.40 hectares to construct metro village adjacent to the proposed coach-maintenance yard in Muttom, near Aluva.

District Collector and member of the Kochi Metro Director Board, PI Sheikh Pareetht asked Revenue Department  to look into this matter more seriously. Three teams of surveyor was appointed by Revenue Department to fasten the survey process.

Priority has been given to acquire land for metro projects, widen narrow portions in the Edapally-Aluva stretch of NH 47, and create via ducts situated far from the road median at a few places.

The work of stretching Town Hall-Madhava Pharmacy Junction into four lanes can only be done if more land is acquired. The deadline to acquire the land for project is extended to February 2013.

Once the survey ends, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd will plan to tie a agreement with National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to widen NH 47.
