Kochi: Metro land acquisition procedures still stuck
The pipeline shifting work on the SA Road has been delayed by the water authority (KWA); with the result that the work schedule will now have to be changed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
With regard to the delay on pipeline shifting work, officials with Kochi Metro have revealed that the progress of work beyond Maharaja’s college could not be predicted by them, as they were largely focused on the stretch between Aluva and Maharaja’s college.
Moreover, the officials have also revealed that land acquisition procedures between Jos Junction and Ernakulam South are also stuck.
Asserting that the district administration and other concerned authorities should take the initiative to acquire land for the Kochi Metro project as early as possible. With land yet to be acquired by the authorities, the plan which Kochi Metro has adopted for now allows for execution of construction works only in places where land is available.
According to officials, construction work has been initiated by DMRC at some specific stretches on SA Road, but the works on the Vyttila-Pettah road have yet to be started because revenue authorities have not started land acquisition procedures till now.
With regard to delays in land acquisition, the officials said: “People are hesitant to give up land for fear that they wouldn’t be paid the compensation on time.”
