Kochi Metro Rail Ltd asked to execute various development works of the corporation
The Kochi Corporation has directed Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) to execute civic jobs or to adequately compensate the civic body for the land which is being acquired for the Metro project.
Expressing its grouse about the allegedly inadequate compensation for the civic body’s land, the corporation said that it is willing to give land to KMRL if it gets cash payment in return, or if KMRL agrees to undertake different development works of the corporation.
According to the information shared by K J Sohan, Chairman of the town planning committee, the corporation has not yet shortlisted the development works which it wants KMRL to execute. Nonetheless, a resolution to the effect was moved by the corporation before the council on Saturday.
In the meantime, the corporation has asked KMRL to authorize Deputy Collector (land acquisition) for carrying out the valuation of corporation land which will be required for the construction of the proposed multi-storey Metro station close to the entrance of south railway station.
Noting that the KMRL projects will necessitate the acquisition of land at Kaloor bus stand, MG Road, Kunnara park, Ernakulam south and in front of Ernakulam Town Hall, an official of the corporation said: “A long strip of land has been handed over to KMRL on MG Road. The value of this plot has not been ascertained.”
