Kurnool to have a 10000 crore investment by DRDO

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has decided that it will be setting up a major product development and assembling unit in Kurnool.

Collector Chief Vijaymohan said in a statement on Wednesday that the announcement for setting up its product development and assembling unit was a mere formality. The DRDO will be conducting a board meeting regarding the same at Kurnool

Investment estimates:

The project that has been proposed by the DRDO is expected to require and estimated investment worth Rs.10000 crore and will be built over an area spanning 2500 acres.

Project Outline:

As per the project details provided by the Defence Research and Development Organisation is that once the unit has been set up, it would become a source of employment to as many as 4000 people in the locality.

Additionally, the decision of the Nuclear Fuel Complex that is awaiting approvals is said to be in its final stage and will require a 1000 acre area of land for its setup.

Additional Projects Planned:

  • Other than these two public sector units that have been planned to be set up, an additional 25,000 acres of land near Orvakal has also been earmarked to be put to industrial use. This will be done with the help of A.P Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.
  • According to Mr. Vijaymohan, as many as 15 industrial giants have expressed their interest in setting their plants near the proposed Orvakal Maize processing unit and the cement plant of the Gujarat Ambuja Exports.
  • A joint sector power unit has been planned by the NTPC which will be set up at Pinnapuram near Panyam. The venture will be made through the National Vidyut Vyapar Nigham (NVVN).  Mr. Vijayhmohan also added that the IIIT would become functional from the coming academic year and would function through assistance from the centre.
  • DRDO had also set up a lab dealing with housing electronic and warfare projects and an evaluation facility in the Kadappa district of Andhra Pradesh. As per official reports, the announcement which was made in September has identified 3383 acres of land in the village for this set up.
