Land Acquisition law remains the same- Implementation issues will be eased- Munde
On May 26, Gopinath Munde was sworn in as the minister of rural development. Earlier drinking water and sanitation and panchayati raj were separate portfolios handled by different ministers, however in lean Modi government; Munde will have the additional responsibilities of these ministries.
Munde stated that in the parliament BJP (when it was in opposition) had supported the new land acquisition act during the UPA led government and the bill was passed winning majority votes. He mentioned that it is a good law, and the government is looking at the ways to ease the implementation of this law. There is no question of revoking or withdrawing this law.
Munde stated that it is his prime agenda to discuss this law with his ministry. He agrees with the rates of compensation in the Act, however feels that the legal recourse part needs a re-look. It has been observed that the compensation is paid to the farmers; however they are never benefitted by it. The rampant corruption which exploits the actual beneficiaries, the farmers needs to be curbed. He also threw light on the previous government’s MGNREGA policy and mentioned that providing jobs to the rural youth will be the top priority of his ministry.
