Land scams in Devanahalli
Devanahalli which is the home to a new international airport looks to be the breeding ground for several land scams. In a recent incident that has come up surface, four tahisildars have allegedly sold off government plots with an estimated price of 100 crores to private land developers in between the year 2008 and 2013.
The scam has come up surface when the commissioner of the survey settlement and land records (SSLR) V Ponnuraj now on the central deputation formed a team to randomly check government land allotments to beneficiaries a few months back. As sources stated in the Bangalore rural deputy commissioner (DC) office, the SSLR department has taken the files relating to more than 1,000 acres and is confirming the quantum of loss to the government.
The SSLR commissioner has asked the principal secretary of revenue department asking for criminal proceedings against the officials who are involved in the scam. Further investigations will be continued before the proceedings take place. The crime is of a serious stature and these land scams have increased of late. Random checking of government land allotments to beneficiaries need to be conducted on a more regular basis in order to avoid such scams.
