LDF stages walk out over DLF project in Kochi
The DLF project in Kochi has come under a lot of pressure now as the Kerala government has cancelled the clearance for it. The opposition LDF (Left Democratic Front) believes that the congress led UDF (United Democratic Front) has shown many undue favours and had allowed the violation of CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone) norms in this project.
The name of Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi also came up during the staged walk out organised by CPIM-led LDF who slammed the charges of political favouritism against Vadra. In reply to the agitation, both Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Minister for Environment Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan stated that the clearance order given by Environment Department in April has been put on hold and the Chief Secretary has been asked to look into all the aspects of the project and file a report within five days.
Chandy made it clear that it was not the policy of the government to allow resort mafia and realtor’s to occupy the backwaters of the state and theirs government had already put a stay on the project after receiving a complaint from Congress MLA T N Prathapan.
He also stated that the proposal for the project came to the government in 2007 and was given first clearance a year later when LDF was in power. Hence they need to look into that aspect of the project before getting into the mudslinging game. Chandy took objection to the opposition members mentioning the name of Vadra, the husband of Priyanka Gandhi.
