Low cost housing seeks more reservation in Bengal urban land policy
The West Bengal government has now decided to bring in an amendment to the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act (ULCA), 1976.
The proposed amendment will impose the reservation of 30 per cent apartments in big housing projects for the low-income group (LIG).
Though the industrialists have been asking to withdraw the law, the ministry has refused to abolish the Land Ceiling Act. Rather they will permit the developers to purchase of lands beyond the ceiling limit.
According to city developers, 30 percent reservation for the LIG segment is not feasible and the government is thrusting the responsibility upon the private developers.
