Lucknow Metro to make maiden voyage come December 2016
UP Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan on Monday revealed that the Lucknow Metro may likely be up and running by December 2016. It would traverse an eight-km-long elevated track from Transport Nagar to Charbagh.
Ranjan stated that tenders had already been floated for civil work, and a pre-bid conference would be held with bidders in Delhi soon. He was accompanied by Principal Secretary, Housing, Sadakant and Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation chief Rajiv Agarwal.
The first track, assigned ‘priority sector’ status, would have eight stations. He said that the land acquisition process had already been initiated.
Covering 22 km. from the airport to Munshi Pulia crossing, the metro would have 22 junctions. Over and above the 95 crore allocated by the state government, 4,500 crore would be required, which would be sourced from international loans and the Centre, he said.
Two international banks – European Investment Bank and French Development Bank, were willing to extend loans at seven percent. They would be visiting the project in Lucknow in July.
