Luxurious Hotel in Mumbai constructed illegally
A five star hotel Shangri-La at Lower Parel was constructed without the environment clearance. It is also claimed that the 39 storey hotel was constructed on the partial premise of High Street Phoenix.
The Ministry of Environment and Forest’s state expert appraisal committee has visited the construction site recently and confirmed that the structure has partially occupied the premise of the Phoenix.
The luxurious hotel has been constructed above the luxury mall, Palladium and according to the hotel authority, they have a no objection certificate from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
The visiting panel is not sure if the MPCB in this case is competent to issue NOC for such construction work.
The committee has asked the construction company to submit documents concerning mandatory clearances from several agencies in the next meeting which is expected to be held later this month.
The estimated cost of construction of the hotel is about Rs 773 crore.
