Madras High Court: ID Charges levied on Developers
The Madras High Court levied Infrastructure and Development (ID) charges on the builders and the promoters on behalf of managing the water and sewerage amenities. Justice D Murugesan and Justice KK Sasidharan short listed nearly 100 builders against the this payment charges. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) introduced certain amount regarding the ID charges over the new projects in the year 2006 on the petitioners are builders of multistory buildings.
All the residential units would require water connection and sewage facilities as the existing facilities are not up to the mark and also action must be taken to provide better facilities for the residents. Advocate-general Navaneetha krishnan reported saying that the authorities are asked to take strict measures to strengthen the existing system over the new demand to provide better services. However the promoters has paid only 1.5% of the total expenditure as ID charges since the time of 1997 over the collection from Metro Water.
