Ruling DF government is yet to decide on which proposal it should accept for redevelopment of old structures deadlock.

NAVI MUMBAI: As the ruling DF government is yet to decide on which proposal it should accept for redevelopment of old structures deadlock over finalizing the FSI for decaying buildings in Navi Mumbai continues.

City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) board permitted 3 FSI for the decaying buildings last week whilst Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has proposed 2.5 FSI earlier.  A senior Mantralaya official said “In resolution to the conflict between two agencies on the FSI issue the urban development department (UDD) considering two options – accept one of the two proposals or find an amicable solution to the subject”.

For residents Cidco’s proposal looks more attractive but it has a condition that society members will not be able to select developers.

UDD is supervised by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan. As per the officials “It is up to UDD to take a final call on the subject”. The final verdict will be given by state government.

Model code of conduct is expected by the political fraternity for general elections to come in effect sometime this week.

The political observers say “The announcement of the decision which will be taken by the ruling DF government will come only after Lok Sabha polls are over, if they fail to decide in few days “.

As NMMC alleges that 3 FSI will create infrastructure burden on the city on the other hand Cidco claims that their proposal is clear and will create housing supply for economically weaker section. However, Cidco officials claimed that civic body’s proposal will ‘help developers rather than residents’. In the meantime, residents and Shiv Sena-BJP have accused DF government of for neglecting the concerns of those residing in decrypted buildings.

Santosh Pachalag, BJP, general secretary, Navi Mumbai alleged “The proposal should have been mutually prepared by NMMC and Cidco rather than creating more problems”. As partisan Cidco will invite disparagement from local residents who will lose their choice to select the developers and standing by NMMC would mean endorsing developer friendly policy therefore Sena leaders are unable to take a stand on the issue.

Vijay Chowgule, local Sena leader stated “We will be doing a press conference soon and our stand would be made clear then”.
