Maharashtra govt’s agri land conversion decision to boost housing sector

No Comments Sub Category:Mumbai,Realty News Posted On: Jul 29, 2014

The agricultural land conversion process has been simplified by the Maharashtra government, in an apparent attempt to give the housing sector a boost.

Hailing the government’s decision, the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation said that the simplification of the agricultural land conversion process has made it easier for property developers, as well as residents holding land, to get agricultural land in Kolhapur city converted to non-agriculture (NA) status.

The officials of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation have stated that, with the agricultural land conversion process having been simplified, approximately 4,000 acres of land earmarked in the ‘yellow zone’ of the Kolhapur city development plan (DP) can now be unlocked for private development.

The simplified agricultural land conversion process implies that the owners of the plots in ‘yellow zone’ will not have to seek the permission of the district collector — a task which was not only cumbersome, but also was weighed down with deep-rooted corruption.

Noting that the approval of NA status of the land proposed for construction previously took more than six months, Girish Raibage – president of the Kolhapur chapter of CREDAI – said: “The state government’s decision will make available a huge stretch of land from the city for private development and will also boost the sector, which is otherwise struggling due to unavailability of land.”
